Most ad creative starts from a blank page. Someone opens a doc, writes "hook ideas," stares at it, and guesses. Then the guess gets designed, shot, edited, launched, and about eight out of ten times it dies in a week. The expensive part was never the production. It was starting from nothing when the answers were already sitting in public.
Clone Studio is our answer to that, and it is live today at /dashboard/clone. It is an AI video ad generator with one unusual rule: it never starts from a blank page. It starts from an ad that is already working. The page is split down the middle. On the left is a competitor's ad that has been running long enough to be considered proven. On the right is your version of it. One button on the seam turns the first into the second.
The whole idea fits in the headline we put on the page: their winner, your ad.
The real thing, start to finish: pick the competitor, pick their longest-running ad, hit Clone, choose your product, read the script, render. The ad on the left has been running 128 days. The one on the right is what came back.
What the page actually looks like
Two panels, one hairline seam, no scrolling. You pick a competitor from a dropdown at the top, and the left panel fills with one of their live ads: video plays on loop, images sit still, and underneath it you see the caption strip that matters, whether it is video or image, how many days it has been running, a spend estimate, and the creative style.
The right panel starts empty and says "Pick their ad, then hit Clone."
In the middle of the seam there is a single blue circle that says Clone. That is the only real decision on the page. Press it, tell us which of your products this is for, and the right panel starts filling in.
We built it this way on purpose. Cloning used to live entirely inside chat, which is powerful but abstract: you type a request, you wait, a file comes back. Here you are looking at the thing you are copying from and the thing you are making, at the same size, at the same time. It is much easier to judge "is mine as good as theirs" when they are literally next to each other.
Picking their winner, not just any ad
Hitting "Change ad" opens their library in a pop-up. Every active ad the brand is running, in a grid, with:
- Keyword search across the ad's headline and body copy, so you can go straight to the offer or hook you care about
- Format filters: video or image
- Style filters: UGC, Studio, Animation, Testimonial
- Sorting: longest running (the default), newest, or highest spend
Longest running is the default for a reason, and it is the same reason the rest of AdWhispr is built the way it is.
Why longevity is the closest thing to proof you can get
The Meta Ad Library does not publish CTR, CPC, ROAS, or conversions. Any tool that shows you a competitor's exact ROAS invented it, which is a thing we refuse to do.
What the library does reveal is time. We snapshot every tracked brand's ads daily, so we know exactly how long each one has been continuously live. And that single number carries more signal than any invented metric, because of one boring fact about how advertisers behave: nobody keeps paying to run an ad that loses money.
An ad that has been live for 150 days survived five months of somebody else's optimization, somebody else's budget, and somebody else's willingness to kill it. It is not a guess about what works in your category. It is a receipt. We made the longer argument for this in why days-running beats every other performance proxy.
So when Clone Studio sorts their library by longest running and puts the top one on your left panel, you are not looking at a random ad. You are looking at the one they refuse to turn off.
For video, the script comes first, and the script is free
This is the part we care most about.
When you clone a video ad, nothing renders straight away. The AI watches their ad, works out why it is built the way it is, and writes you a scene-by-scene script for your version: each scene, its time range, its voiceover line, and what is on screen. Then it stops and shows it to you.
Every line is editable. Tap any voiceover line or visual direction and rewrite it. Change the end card headline. Change the call to action. The card says it plainly: nothing renders or charges until you start the clone. If you edit a line, it renders exactly what you wrote.
Only when you press "Start clone" do credits get spent.
We built the gate this way because of how the alternative feels. Paying first and finding out second means every bad render is a small argument with the tool. Reading the plan first means you kill the bad ones for free, and the renders you do pay for are ones you already agreed with. Writing scripts costs us money and we still give them away, because a user who reads the script before paying is a user who trusts the output.
Free accounts get this too. You can browse every competitor library and get full, editable scripts written without paying anything. The wall is at rendering, and we say so on the button rather than hiding it behind a signup.
What it costs: priced by the second
Video clones are priced by how long the finished ad is, not by a flat "one video, one credit" fee that overcharges short ads and undercharges long ones.
- 1 credit is about 2 seconds of finished video
- 1 credit is $1
- Minimum 5 credits per video
- Credits never expire
In practice: a 10 second ad is 5 credits, a 20 second ad is 10, a 30 second ad is 15. The clone matches the length of the ad you are cloning, capped at 30 seconds, so a short punchy competitor ad stays short and cheap instead of getting padded out to fill a runtime.
The script card tells you the exact price before you approve it, next to your current balance. Rendering runs on Seedance 2.5 and takes about five minutes, with native audio, in vertical 9:16.
Two more things that should be table stakes and often are not: if the analysis fails, no credit is taken. If a render fails, the credit is refunded automatically.
Image ads clone in about a minute
Image ads skip the script step entirely, because there is nothing to sequence. Pick the ad, pick your product, press Clone, and about a minute later your version appears on the right in the same shape as the original. Free accounts get one free image clone. After that it runs off your plan's monthly clone allowance.
Who this is for
E-commerce brands without a creative team. You are the founder, the media buyer, and the person writing the hooks at 11pm. Clone Studio replaces the blank page with a shelf of ads your competitors have already validated with their own money.
Agencies. New client, unfamiliar category, first creative batch due Friday. Instead of a discovery call about "brand voice," you open their competitors' libraries, sort by longest running, and have proven concepts rebuilt for the client's product before the kickoff deck is finished.
Anyone already cloning inside chat. Clone Studio and the chat tools are the same pipeline. Use the studio when you want to see it, use chat when you want to batch it.
One thing worth repeating, because it is the difference between smart and stupid here: you are cloning the structure, not the assets. The hook shape, the pacing, the offer framing, the reason it works. Never their footage, never their copy, never their brand. We wrote the full do-and-don't list in cloning a competitor's ad ethically, and the pipeline is built to rebuild around your product rather than copy theirs.
What it does not do yet
Being honest about version one:
- Video output is vertical 9:16 only. Great for Reels, Stories, TikTok and Shorts. If you need a square or landscape cut, that is not in the studio yet.
- There is no engine picker. Every video clone runs on Seedance 2.5, which is the one we would have picked for you anyway.
- There is no launch button on the page. Clone Studio makes the creative. Getting it live still happens through chat, which is covered end to end in clone a competitor's ad and launch it.
FAQ
What is Clone Studio?
It is a page inside AdWhispr at /dashboard/clone that shows a competitor's proven ad on one side of the screen and your version of it on the other. You pick the ad from their live library, pick which of your products it is for, and press one button to rebuild it around your brand.
How do you know a competitor's ad is proven?
By how long it has been running. Meta's Ad Library never publishes CTR or ROAS, so we track every ad daily and count the days it stays continuously live. Advertisers stop paying for ads that lose, so an ad still running after months is a winner by revealed preference rather than by an invented score.
Do I pay before or after I see the video script?
After. The script is written free, shown to you in full, and editable line by line. Credits are only charged when you press "Start clone" on a script you have approved.
How much does a video clone cost?
Video is priced by length: 1 credit is about 2 seconds of finished ad, 1 credit is $1, with a 5 credit minimum. So roughly $5 for a 10 second ad and $15 for a 30 second one. Credits never expire, and a failed render is refunded.
Can I use Clone Studio on a free account?
Yes, for everything except video rendering. Free accounts can browse every competitor's library, pick any ad, and get full editable scripts at no cost, plus one free image clone. Rendering video needs credits.
Is cloning a competitor's ad legal?
Rebuilding a proven ad's structure for your own product is standard practice and is what Clone Studio does. Copying their footage, their copy, or their brand assets is not, and is not what the pipeline produces. The checklist is in our post on cloning ethically.
Try it on your biggest competitor
Open Clone Studio, pick the competitor who has been beating you all quarter, and sort their library by longest running. The ad at the top is the one they have refused to turn off. Press Clone and read the script we write for your version. That part costs nothing, and it will tell you within a minute whether the rest is worth $5.
Stop guessing at hooks. Start from the ones that already survived.
