OpenAI is now showing ads inside ChatGPT. If your customers are the people asking ChatGPT questions all day, that is a brand new place to reach them, and almost nobody has worked out the playbook yet.

One thing up front, because it changes how you buy it. ChatGPT Ads has no advertising API. You cannot connect it to a tool and have that tool launch campaigns for you, the way you connect Meta or Google. You run ChatGPT Ads yourself, by hand, in OpenAI's Ads Manager. Anyone who claims they "launch your ChatGPT ads for you" is either wrong or waiting on an API that does not exist yet. What a tool can genuinely do today is two things: help you make the ad, and run the rest of your funnel. That is where AdWhispr fits, and we will be honest about the line the whole way through.

What ChatGPT Ads actually is

ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI's own ad surface. You build and manage campaigns in the Ads Manager beta at ads.openai.com. An ad appears as a single sponsored result below a relevant ChatGPT answer, and every signal (impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, conversions) reports back in that same console.

It is deliberately small at launch: one ad unit, a short set of objectives, a limited set of countries, and no API. OpenAI is letting advertisers in a few at a time and reviewing each account by hand before anything can run.

Where your ads can and cannot show

This is the first thing to check, because for some businesses the answer is "not yet."

Ads serve to people on the free tiers of ChatGPT, not to paying Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu users. They also stay out of sensitive conversations, such as health, money and politics, and out of logged-out or temporary chats. Several verticals are excluded outright at launch, including dating, health, financial services and politics.

OpenAI reviews every advertiser by hand, and the review can come back with an industry block: a message that your industry is not eligible to serve ads in ChatGPT right now, with an emailed appeal link. If you see that, it is not a bug, it is the policy engine reading your account, your homepage and your landing page. A tighter, more specific landing page helps. Eligibility is also changing quickly while the product is in beta, so a "no" today is not always a "no" next month.

What a ChatGPT ad is made of

The unit is simple, which means the writing and the image carry all the weight. Plan your asset library around six pieces:

  • Advertiser name. Set once at the account level. It shows on every ad.
  • Brand logo (favicon). Account level. Make sure it still reads at 16 by 16 pixels.
  • Title. Per ad. The hook the user reads first.
  • Copy. Per ad. A concise expansion of the title.
  • Image. Per ad. The visual rendered in the unit.
  • Landing page. Per ad. Add UTM parameters so your own analytics can see the traffic.

How to launch, step by step

OpenAI's flow is three steps. Start the application before you need to be live, because the account review is manual.

  1. Account and billing. Sign in at ads.openai.com with a work-email OpenAI account. Add your advertiser name and favicon, set up a billing profile and payment method, and invite any teammates.
  2. Campaign, then ad group, then ad. Pick your objective, set budget and dates, write your titles and copy, upload your images and landing pages, and submit for review.
  3. Monitor and iterate. Watch impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC or CPM, and conversions in the table, the charts, or a CSV export, then refine with edits.

To measure results, create a conversion data source and add the pixel events where your conversions happen (a signup, a checkout, a subscription). New campaigns stay in review until OpenAI approves them.

What it costs

There are two ways to buy, settled in a relevance-weighted second-price auction:

Reach (CPM) Clicks (CPC)
You pay for 1,000 impressions each click
Best for awareness, broad topical reach signups and landing-page traffic

Bids and floors are still moving while the product is in beta, so treat any published number as a starting point and confirm the current guidance inside Ads Manager before you commit a budget.

Where AdWhispr fits

Two honest jobs, both shaped by the no-API reality.

It makes the ad. A ChatGPT ad lives or dies on a title, a line of copy, and an image that reads in a tiny box. That is creative work, and it is exactly what AdWhispr does. Ask it to write title and copy variants for your offer and to generate the image asset for your product, on brand, then paste them straight into Ads Manager. You still press launch yourself, but you are not staring at a blank box.

It runs everything else. ChatGPT is one channel. Your Meta, TikTok, Google and X campaigns are where most of your budget still lives, and that is what AdWhispr was built for. Connect those accounts once, then research competitors, build campaigns, launch, pull reports and shift budget from the same chat window where you drafted your ChatGPT ad copy. New campaigns stay paused for your review before they spend.

OpenAI Ads Manager vs AdWhispr

They do not compete. One is the ChatGPT surface; the other makes your creative and runs the other platforms.

FAQ

Can I connect ChatGPT Ads to AdWhispr, or any tool, and automate it? No. OpenAI has not shipped an ads API, so ChatGPT Ads is managed by hand at ads.openai.com. What AdWhispr does is make the creative and run your other platforms.

Who sees my ChatGPT ads? People on ChatGPT's free tiers, below relevant answers. Paying ChatGPT subscribers do not see ads.

My industry says it is not eligible. What now? OpenAI gates some verticals and reviews each account, and there is an emailed appeal. Tighten your landing page so it reads as a specific customer tool, and check back, since eligibility is still opening up.

Can AdWhispr write my ChatGPT ad copy and make the image? Yes. Give it your product and offer, and it will write title and copy variants and generate the image asset, ready to paste into Ads Manager.

What about Meta, TikTok, Google and X? That is the half AdWhispr runs for you, end to end, from the same chat.
