An honest Foreplay review for 2026: Discovery, Spyder, Lens, Briefs, its MCP, real pricing, what it does brilliantly, and the one thing it will never do for you.
Foreplay is one of the best creative research tools you can buy. If your job is finding great ads, saving them, and turning them into briefs for a creative team, it is hard to beat.
What it will not do is make the ad, or run it. Every Foreplay workflow ends with a human picking up the brief. Whether that is a problem depends entirely on who that human is.
The comparison, up front
What Foreplay is
Foreplay is a creative research and workflow platform built around five products.
Discovery is the library: over 100 million ads, with around 100,000 added every day, covering the Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn ad libraries. The feed leans on what real users are saving, which is a clever way to surface ads other marketers already rate.
Swipe File is the core. Save an ad in one click (there is a free Chrome extension for this), and it lands on a board with the hook and voiceover transcribed. Boards can be tagged, organized and shared with a team or a client.
Spyder tracks named competitors around the clock, mostly off the Meta Ad Library. You get a timeline of their creative tests, archived landing pages, and scheduled email reports.
Lens is analytics for your own creative: which themes win, test analysis, and shareable reports.
Briefs turns saved ads into structured creative briefs, including storyboards and scripts.
It also has an MCP server, so you can query Discovery, your swipe files and your boards from inside Claude or ChatGPT. That used to be a real difference between tools like Foreplay and tools like ours. It no longer is, and any comparison that still claims otherwise is out of date.
What Foreplay genuinely gets right
The swipe file is excellent. Collecting, tagging and sharing reference ads is a real job, and Foreplay does it better than anyone. If you brief designers every week, the boards alone may justify the price.
It is built for teams. Seats, shared boards and client-ready reports are first-class, not an afterthought. For an agency or an in-house creative team, that matters.
LinkedIn coverage. If you sell B2B and LinkedIn is a real channel for you, a library that includes it is worth something.
The gap: the brief is where it stops
Here is what a Foreplay workflow produces: a well-organized board, and a good brief.
Then someone has to make the ad. Then someone has to open Ads Manager, build the campaign, and launch it. Foreplay does not generate a finished image or video ad, and it does not connect to your ad accounts to launch anything.
If you have a creative team and a media buyer, that is fine. That is exactly the division of labor Foreplay was designed for.
If you are a founder or a one-person marketing team, the brief is the easy part. The hours go into producing the creative and getting it live. That is the half Foreplay leaves with you.
Here is the difference as a single instruction:
"Find the longest-running ad from @competitor, make a version of it
for my brand, and launch it on Meta with a $30 a day budget"
In AdWhispr that runs end to end: research, then a finished image or video ad, then a live campaign on Meta, Google or TikTok. Our library tracks over 700,000 competitor ads across thousands of brands. In a research tool, the first step works and the rest of the sentence has nowhere to go.

Verdict
Choose Foreplay if you run a creative team. If the output you need is organized inspiration and strong briefs, handed to designers and a media buyer who do the rest, Foreplay is the category leader for good reason.
Choose AdWhispr if you are the person who has to do the rest. If you want the proven competitor ad turned into your own creative and running on the platforms where your budget goes, without a handoff, that is the job we built for.
