Use this when

You are burning budget on searches that will never convert, or you are about to launch and want to fence off the obvious waste before the first click. Negative keywords are the single highest-ROI hygiene move in Search, and this skill finds the terms bleeding money and builds the list to block them.

Reach for it when your search terms report is full of off-target queries, when a broad-match campaign is pulling in the wrong intent, or as a standing monthly cleanup on any live account.

What you need

  • The campaign or product you want to clean up, and the market.
  • A connected Google Ads account if you want the skill to read your actual search terms and, on your approval, apply the negatives. Without one, it still builds a recommended list from research.
  • AdWhispr connected to your AI client. The box at the top of this page has the one-time setup.

How it runs

  1. Confirm the campaign or product and the market.
  2. Pull the terms that are triggering ads, whether from your connected search-terms data or from keyword research around the product.
  3. Separate the terms by intent, and flag the ones whose intent does not match what you sell: wrong product, wrong stage, free-seekers, jobs, competitors you do not want to pay for.
  4. Group the flagged terms into a structured negative list with the right match type per negative, so you block the waste without smothering good traffic.
  5. Present the list for review, with the reason each term is on it.
  6. On your explicit approval, apply the negatives to the account. Nothing is added to a live campaign before you say yes.

What the skill checks

  • Volume and competition figures are quoted the way the data source returns them, with the estimate caveat kept intact, never as exact spend saved.
  • Intent grouping is explicit, so a term is only marked negative when its intent genuinely misses, not because it looks unfamiliar.
  • Each proposed negative carries the match type and the reason, so an over-broad negative cannot quietly block converting searches.
  • The list is checked against your active keywords, where an account is connected, so a negative never cancels a term you are deliberately bidding on.

When it stops

  • Done: negatives applied to the account after your approval, with the list and the reasons recorded.
  • Partial: the list is built and returned, but no account is connected or approval was not given, so nothing was applied.
  • Blocked: the campaign or market cannot be resolved, or there are no search terms to read yet, reported as a finding.

What it will and won't do

Research and list-building are read-only. Applying the negatives to a live account is the one change this skill can make, and it only happens as a separate step after your explicit approval. It never changes bids, budgets, or anything beyond the negative list you signed off on.

What you get

A structured negative keyword list: each term grouped by why it wastes spend, the match type to block it with, and the intent mismatch that put it there. Where you approve it, the list applied to your account. Where you do not, the same list ready to paste in yourself.

FAQ

What is a negative keyword list?

A set of terms you tell Google not to show ads for, so your budget stops going to searches that miss your product. Getting it right is the cheapest performance gain in Search, because every blocked wrong click is spend redirected to the right ones.

How do negative keywords cut wasted ad spend?

Broad and phrase match pull in searches beyond your exact keywords, and many of those never convert: free-seekers, the wrong product, job hunters, unrelated competitors. Blocking them stops the spend at the source. This skill finds those terms by intent and packages them into a list, with volume quoted the way the data source reports it rather than as a guaranteed saving.

Will this apply changes to my account automatically?

No. The list is built and shown to you first. Negatives are only written to a live account after your explicit approval, and nothing else about the account is touched.

Do I need a Google Ads account?

Not to build the list. A connected account lets the skill read your real search terms and, on your approval, apply the negatives directly. Without one, you get the same recommended list to add yourself.
