Choosing a campaign objective by business type

Which objective to pick when you launch through AdWhispr, explained for an online store, a local service business and a lead-driven business, with what each objective needs on Meta, Google and TikTok.

The objective tells the platform what to optimize for. Pick it before you launch; if you have not said, the chat asks rather than guessing. The valid choices are a fixed list per platform, so this guide maps three kinds of business onto them.

The objectives you can pick

Objective What it optimizes for Meta Google TikTok
Traffic Clicks to your site (the default) Yes Search bids per click Yes (default)
Sales Purchases tracked by a pixel Yes, pixel attached automatically Performance Max, with conversion tracking Yes, name the pixel
Awareness Reach Yes No Yes
Engagement Interaction with the ad Yes No No
Video views Views of the video No No Yes
Leads Form submissions Not launched from chat yet No Campaign and ad group from chat; form and ad added in Ads Manager

Google Search campaigns have no objective: you bid on keywords and pay per click. Performance Max bids toward whatever conversions the account tracks.

An ecommerce brand: sales, once the pixel fires

Cloud Linen sells bedding online. The point of every ad is a purchase, so the sales objective is the right one as soon as the Meta pixel (or TikTok pixel) is installed and has recorded purchases. The platform then finds people likely to buy, and the performance read shows purchases, cost per purchase and return on ad spend, which is how you decide what to scale.

You

Launch "Bedding UGC" as a sales campaign on Meta at 40 a day.

AdWhispr

Your account's pixel "Cloud Linen web" will be attached and the ad set optimizes for purchases. Preview: sales objective, 40.00 a day, United States (default), created paused. Create it?

If the account has no pixel, the chat says so and suggests traffic instead. A pixel that is installed but has never fired is flagged in the preview so you can check it before spending. Run traffic first when the pixel is new, then switch to sales once purchases are being recorded.

On Google, a store with conversion tracking gets the most from Performance Max, which AdWhispr builds with generated assets from your brand profile.

A local service: traffic to a booking page, in a radius

Riverside Chiropractic wants appointments, and appointments are booked on the website. Traffic to the booking page, targeted to a radius around the clinic, is the simplest campaign that works. Later, a pixel on the booking confirmation page lets you switch to a sales objective, where "purchase" means a booked visit.

On Google, local services do well on Search: people typing "chiropractor near me" are ready to book. Launch a Search campaign on those keywords with the clinic's city in the headlines.

Keep in mind the special ad categories: if your copy reads like housing, employment or credit, Meta requires a declaration and removes age and gender targeting. A clinic will not trigger it; a realtor or a lender will. See special ad categories.

A lead-driven business: traffic now, forms where they exist

An agency selling a consulting package, or a home-services company that quotes by phone, wants leads. Today the practical choices from chat are:

  • Traffic to a landing page with a form. Works on every platform.
  • Call Now ads on Meta, with your phone number in international format, for businesses that close on the phone.
  • WhatsApp ads on Meta when your Page is linked to a WhatsApp Business account.
  • TikTok lead campaigns, where the chat builds the campaign and ad group and you attach a video and a published Instant Form in TikTok Ads Manager.

Meta lead-form ads need a lead form and are not launched from chat yet, so use traffic to your own form.

Awareness, engagement and video views

Awareness buys reach at the lowest cost; use it for a launch or an event when you want as many local people as possible to have seen the name. Engagement (Meta) optimizes for reactions, comments and shares. Video views (TikTok) optimizes for people watching the video. None of these are the right first campaign for a business that needs sales this month, but they are the right choice when the goal really is being seen.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I do not say an objective?

The chat asks you to pick one from the list for that platform instead of guessing.

Can I run a sales campaign without a pixel?

No. Sales needs a pixel to know what a purchase is. The chat tells you when the account has none and offers traffic instead.

Which objective for a brand-new store with no sales yet?

Traffic, until the pixel has recorded real purchases. Then switch to sales.

No. You choose keywords and a max cost per click. Performance Max is the Google campaign that optimizes toward conversions.
